Who is Dion McGregor?

Dion McGregor (1922–1994) was famous for this extraordinary ability: he narrated his dreams out loud, in full detail, while sleeping.

His roommate, Mike Barr, recorded hundreds of these dream monologues. They are bizarre, surreal, and theatrical. Released on vinyl in the 1960s and CD in 2000s, Dion's dreams have fascinated artists, psychologists, and sleep researchers for decades because they are not stories shaped for an audience, they are the mind speaking to itself - making Dion's dreams as much data as they are art.

“McGregor’s somniloquies represent an unusually extensive natural archive of verbal dream content, offering researchers an opportunity to analyze the structure and narrative features of unconscious speech. - Dr. Deidre Barrett, Harvard psychologist and leading expert in dreaming

The Somniloquist Project will take these raw recordings and transform them into visual experiences for the first time.
